About Us

XLWales is an educational charity that has been operating across South and West Wales since 1996. We have a proven track record of delivering innovative and motivational STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Maths) activities in schools and community venues, run by a team of professional, experienced, highly trained staff.

The Objects of the charity are “the advancement of public education by providing activities which improve key life and subject skills and the advancement of public understanding of science and technology related subjects”.

XLWales utilises fun, exciting, interactive and hands-on practical learning to enthuse children, young people and adults, helping them develop key life skills such as investigation, problem solving, team working, communicating, creating, thinking and a can-do approach. Many of the activities use the construction kit K’NEX which is a popular and exciting for boys and girls alike. Some of the activities also use iPads so that the children can document their work.

The activities are delivered across the whole of South and West Wales, to the following beneficiary groups:

  • Primary school pupils and their teachers
  • XLWales Holiday Club – holiday childcare in Mumbles, Swansea
  • Community Groups such as museums, libraries, carnivals, family events, children’s clubs
  • Children and their parents and/or grandparents attending family centres and family events
  • Digital learning for adults and children

Through its activities, XLWales aims to

  • promote education in STEM subjects – Science, Technology, Engineering, Maths – and digital learning
  • develop life skills such as investigating, problem-solving, team-working, communicating, creating, thinking and a ‘can-do’ approach to an audience across South and West Wales
